Buying a Static Holiday Caravan or Lodge – Top Tips from Tree Tops Caravan Park!
Buying a Static Holiday Caravan or Lodge – Top Tips from Tree Tops Caravan Park in North Wales!
Make the most of the season!
If you’re considering buying a caravan or lodge on a caravan park to enjoy holidays year after year, now is a great time to do it!
Make the most of the season by buying right at the start of it!
As exciting as it is to buy your own holiday caravan, there’s lots to think about and consider before you do, and as part of the process.
Tree Tops Caravan Park was granted a licence in 1960 and has been owned and run by our family since the beginning. So, with decades of experience, we’re in a good position to offer you some practical advice to help you on your caravan-buying journey!
Here are Tree Tops’ top tips and things to consider when buying a static holiday caravan or lodge at a caravan park…
First things first
One of the first things to think about is your budget.
Decide how much you can afford and are willing to pay for your caravan.
Also think carefully about annual running costs. Things like site fees, insurance, utilities, etc.
If you find it hard to cover the costs each year, it’s going to take the enjoyment out of your investment.
Set your maximum budget, for your caravan purchase and annual costs, and stick to it!
What do you want & need from your caravan?
How many people will be using the caravan most of the time?
This determines how many bedrooms you need to be comfortable on your holidays.
Many caravans have pull-out sofa beds in the lounge, affording you extra sleeping space.
Do you want decking on your caravan?
Decking provides an extra space to relax, read a book, cook up a storm on the BBQ, enjoy your favourite tipple under the stars, lazy breakfasts and lunches, say hello to fellow owners… the list goes on and on!
Many caravans are sold with decking included, and some will come with the option to have it added at an additional cost.
It’s definitely a fantastic investment to add an extra dimension to your holidays!
Bear in mind that some plots aren’t suitable to accommodate decking, so make sure you ask the question when you view if it’s something you’d want.
A caravan with a view?
If you love the idea of enjoying fantastic views as you relax in your caravan, take note of what you can see from caravans when you visit parks.
Pre-owned or new?
There are some fantastic examples of pre-owned caravans out there, and it’s definitely worth considering these, as well as new.
At Tree Tops, all our pre-owned caravans are checked to ensure they’re in great condition and are professionally cleaned and prepared for sale.
Holiday Hobbies
If you have hobbies you’d like to do on holiday as well as at home, such as crafting or sewing, for example, you’ll likely need space to store materials, as well as somewhere to enjoy doing them. An extra bedroom or a spacious lounge could be perfect!
Many of our Tree Toppers are keen photographers and take some amazing shots of our gardens, views, and the spectacular sunsets we’re treated to, as well as their visits to the local area and attractions further afield.
What are you looking for from a caravan park?
Being happy at the caravan park you choose, as well as in your caravan, is really important.
Think about the things you want from the park, such as facilities, the immediate surroundings, the local area and further afield.
Gardens & Views
If you enjoy being in nature and gorgeous gardens, look at these when you visit parks. Are the gardens well-maintained? Do they stand out as soon as you arrive?
If you love to sit and relax while admiring the views, you’ll probably want to do that on holiday too! When you view parks and caravans, take note of the views from the lounge and/or decking, and around the park. Are there places to sit and watch the world go by?
At Tree Tops, we have several benches and seating areas around the park, perfectly located for taking in the stunning views of the park, and out to the Dee Estuary and Irish Sea, and we’ve won no less than 32 Wales in Bloom awards for our beautifully landscaped and planted gardens!
Pets love holidays too!
If you have pets who’ll share your caravan holidays, make sure the parks you’re looking at are pet-friendly.
You might prefer a shaded plot to make sure your pets are comfortable in the hotter weather.
Lots of our Tree Toppers chose us because we’re a pet-friendly park, and they can bring their dogs on holiday. We’ve also had holidaying cats and even a tortoise!
We have two dog-walking areas for you and your pups to enjoy.
Peace & quiet or hustle & bustle?
Think about whether you want to be at a quiet and peaceful park, or one with facilities such as a pool, restaurant and bar etc.
Some holiday caravan owners seek quiet, private, family-owned and run caravan parks, while others prefer busier parks with amusements, bars etc.
Tree Tops Caravan Park falls into the former category and is precisely why many of our Tree Toppers chose our Park. Instead of a clubhouse or pool, we have beautiful gardens and tranquil surroundings. Our facilities include a children’s play area, two dog-walking fields, an outdoor gym, a launderette, a library, free and premium WiFi, and an EV charging point for up to two vehicles.
How far do you want to travel from home to your caravan?
Think about your journey time to your caravan, and how often you’ll be making that trip. You may be happy with a few hours’ travel each time you visit, or you might prefer to be within an hour or two of the park. Consider if the journey time you’re happy with now might change in a few years’ time.
When you visit potential caravan parks & view caravans
Visit multiple parks and view many caravans!
Take your time when viewing caravans.
- Visualise yourself and your family in the caravan, and how you’d use it.
- Is there enough room for you all?
Do the same with the parks you visit.
- Can you see yourself enjoying your holidays there?
- Take a good look around at the grounds, gardens, facilities etc. Does it have the things you want? Is the park well-maintained?
- Talk to other caravan owners at the park. What do they think of the park and team? Are they happy there?
- Read real-person reviews of the parks, and even the particular make and model of caravan you’re looking at.
- Explore the local area. When you visit your caravan, you’re probably going to want to get out and about! Find out what there is to see and do nearby and further afield.
Keep an open mind!
When you start visiting parks and viewing caravans, you may well realise there are things you want to add to your wishlist, or things you thought you wanted that now aren’t so important.
So, it’s good to keep an open mind!
Do your research & ask questions!
Buying a holiday caravan can be a big investment, and you’re likely to spend a lot of time there, so you need to make sure you’ll be happy.
Do as much research as you can into holiday caravan ownership, and the parks and caravans you’re looking at.
Ask as many questions as you can think of!
Ask the park about things such as site fees and annual running costs, and to read the licence agreement, park rules etc.
A good caravan park will offer the information, but if they don’t, and don’t allow you to read their licence agreement etc, ask yourself – and them – why!
At Tree Tops, we encourage you to ask questions, do your research, and to spend time looking around our Park on your own and talk to our Tree Toppers. No question is ever considered silly, and we’re here to help you as much as we can!
If you choose to buy your caravan here and become a Tree Topper yourself, we want you to be as happy as you can be!
